    Polyurethane Sealant

Megaseal PU1 single component flexible polyurethane joint sealant in 600 ml sausage by MATEX

    Megaseal Pu1

    Single Component Flexible Polyurethane Sealant

MEGASEAL PU1 is a single-component, moisture-curing polyurethane sealant that forms a durable, flexible joint with outstanding weather and UV resistance. Ideal for sealing expansion and movement joints in both indoor and outdoor settings, MEGASEAL PU1 delivers strong adhesion to concrete, wood, stone, and metals. It cures quickly, reduces dirt pickup, and provides a permanent watertight seal. The product is highly resilient, resistant to a range of moderate chemicals (though not suitable for chemical exposure or foodstuff contact), and compatible with water-based paints, making it an excellent choice for general construction, facade works, and infrastructure projects where flexibility and longevity are essential.

    How to Apply Megaseal Pu1

Megaseal PU1 is a ready-to-use moisture-curing sealant applied by gun into a prepared, primed (where needed) and backed joint.

    1. Prepare the joint. Joint side surfaces must be dry, smooth, clean and free from dust, laitance or loose materials; use compressed air or a wire brush to remove dirt, oil stains and contaminants. New concrete or cementitious surfaces must be cured with moisture content not exceeding 4%, and edge or corner defects repaired with MATEX repair products.
    2. Mask the joint edges. Apply masking tape to the sides of the joint before priming to protect the joint edges from contamination.
    3. Prime if required. Primer is not required on sound, clean, totally dry joint surfaces. Where needed, use Megaprime on porous surfaces and Megaprime SP on non-porous surfaces, apply a thin coat to both joint faces before installing the backer rod, and allow it to become tack free.
    4. Install backing. Ensure the joint filler or backing rod is tightly packed with no gaps at the base, so the sealant bonds only to the joint sides. Bond breaker tape is not needed with polyethylene foam joint filler; for construction or contraction joints, polyethylene bond breaker tape must be used.
    5. Apply the sealant. Load the 600 ml sausage into a manual extrusion (barrel) gun. Place the nozzle at the bottom of the joint and fill the entire space with a steady flow ahead of the nozzle to avoid air entrapment.
    6. Tool and remove tape. Use a suitable rounded tool to achieve a smooth profile, and remove the masking tape before the sealant dries.
    7. Clean tools. Clean tools immediately after application with Armosolvent. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What joint sizes can Megaseal PU1 seal?

Megaseal PU1 can be applied in joints up to 40 mm wide and 25 mm deep, with a minimum of 6 x 6 mm. Depth equals width for joints under 13 mm wide, and is about half the width for joints over 13 mm.

What movement capability does Megaseal PU1 have?

Megaseal PU1 has a movement capability of ±25%, with elongation at break of 500% (ASTM D412) and elastic recovery above 70%.

How long does Megaseal PU1 take to cure?

Skinning time is 60 minutes and cure time is 2-3 mm per 24 hours at +23°C/50% R.H. Setting time is 18 hours at 25°C.

What are the application and service temperatures for Megaseal PU1?

Apply between +5°C and 35°C. Service temperature is -30°C to +70°C.

What is the shelf life of Megaseal PU1?

Megaseal PU1 can be used within 9 months of production when stored unopened in original packing, in dry conditions away from direct sunlight, at no more than 25°C. It is supplied in 600 ml sausages.
