    Polyurethane Sealant

Megaseal Cord closed cell polyethylene backer rod by MATEX in a sealant joint

    Megaseal Cord

Polyethylene Closed Cell Backer Rod for Joint Sealants

MEGASEAL CORD is a closed-cell polyethylene foam backing rod designed to support sealants in expansion and construction joints. Available in various diameters, it provides a firm, flexible base that helps maintain proper joint dimensions and prevent three-sided adhesion. MEGASEAL CORD is highly resistant to moisture absorption, weathering, and deterioration, ensuring long-term performance in internal and external joints. Easy to handle and install, it is essential for high-quality joint sealing across construction, civil engineering, and facade applications. It also improves joint movement capacity and reduces sealant strain, prolonging the service life of the sealed joint.

    Technical data:
    • Appearance : compressible, closed cell, extruded polyethylene circular cord
    • Color : white or grey
    • Temperature Resistance : -20°C to 80°C
    • Packaging : 50 lm long roll , Diameters: 10, 20, 25, 30 mm

    How to Apply Megaseal Cord

Megaseal Cord is pressed into a clean joint at the depth needed for the sealant, sized slightly larger than the joint width so it stays in compression.

    1. Clean the joint. All side surfaces of the joint must be dry, smooth, clean and free from dust, laitance or loose material. Use compressed air or a wire brush to remove remaining dirt, oil stains and other contaminants.
    2. Select the diameter. Choose a Megaseal Cord diameter approximately 20 to 25% larger than the joint width. It is available in 10, 20, 25 and 30 mm diameters.
    3. Position the rod. Press the cord into the joint so that the required minimum sealant depth can be obtained above it.
    4. Apply the sealant. Apply the elastomeric sealant over the cord. Its circular section gives a convex face that provides a minimum strain shape for the sealant and reduces stress at the bond interface.
