    Concrete Repair

Lavafinish FL polymer modified cementitious skim fairing and reprofiling coat by MATEX

    Lavafinish Fl

Polymer Modified Skim Cementitious Fairing and Reprofiling Coat

LAVAFINISH FL is a premixed, polymer-modified, shrinkage-controlled skim coat formulated for re-profiling and fairing concrete surfaces with voids from 3 to 8 mm. Made from Portland cement, hydraulic binders, silica sand, and performance additives, it mixes easily with water to form a workable mortar suitable for vertical, horizontal, and overhead repairs. LAVAFINISH FL delivers a smooth finish with excellent adhesion, making it ideal for surface correction and minor repairs. It resists chloride ingress, chemical exposure, and atmospheric attack, ensuring long-term durability and compatibility with subsequent coatings or repair layers in high-performance concrete applications.

    How to Apply Lavafinish Fl

Lavafinish FL is mixed with water only and troweled onto saturated surface dry concrete in layers up to 8 mm.

    1. Prepare the surface. The surface must be perfectly clean and free from grease, dust, contaminants, oil and loose material, and not coated with curing compounds.
    2. Pre-wet to SSD. Soak the substrate with water and let the excess drain to a saturated surface dry (SSD) condition. Applying over dry concrete without saturation or a bonding agent will result in failure.
    3. Mix. Pour 4.5-4.75 liters of clean water into the container and slowly add the full 25 kg bag while mixing with a low-speed heavy-duty mixer and spiral paddle (max 500 rpm) for at least 3 minutes until lump-free. Always add powder to water and do not add extra water afterward.
    4. Apply. Apply by trowel or spatula to the SSD surface in layers up to a maximum of 8 mm, using a very clean tool to avoid scratching. Leave the surface rough if another layer is needed; it can be applied on a fiber mesh layer where a high mechanical resistance plaster is required.
    5. Cure. Avoid rapid evaporation by curing with clean water or a coat of a MATEX curing agent.
    6. Clean tools. Clean tools with water before the product hardens; hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness can Lavafinish FL be applied at?

Lavafinish FL is applied for fairing of voids from 3 mm up to 8 mm, in layers with a maximum thickness of 8 mm.

What is the coverage of Lavafinish FL?

The TDS gives coverage of approximately 5.0 square meters at 3.0 mm thickness, subject to site conditions. Yield is 15 liters per 25 kg bag with 4.75 liters of water.

What is the application temperature for Lavafinish FL?

From 5°C to +40°C. Workability of the mixture is more than 30 minutes at 25°C.

    Where is Lavafinish FL used?

It is used on horizontal, vertical and overhead surfaces as a skim coat for walls and columns, a honeycombing filler for soffits, a re-profiling layer in closed areas such as staircase landings and service rooms, and for minor repairs to concrete flooring.

What is the shelf life of Lavafinish FL?

12 months from production date in unopened original packing, stored dry and away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
