How to Apply Hardtop Lq
Hardtop LQ is a ready-to-use sodium silicate liquid poured onto dry concrete, broomed in, reworked as it gels, then rinsed off.
- Prepare the surface. Surfaces should be sound, clean, dry and free from loose material, efflorescence, laitance, curing compounds, dirt, oil and grease. Treat oil or grease with a suitable chemical degreaser and wash with clean water, and repair cracks with a recommended MATEX repair product.
- Test and stir. Apply only on dry surfaces for full penetration, and test colored cement floors on a small area first to confirm the color does not change. Hardtop LQ is single component and may only need stirring before use.
- Apply. Pour Hardtop LQ onto the floor and spread evenly with a brush, squeegee or powered sprayer, moving the broom back and forth for good penetration. Allow 30–45 minutes for absorption.
- Rework the gel. When the material gels and becomes slippery, wet it slightly with a water spray and rework it into the surface for 10–20 minutes with a soft bristle broom or floor scrubbing machine.
- Rinse. After about 20 minutes, when the material returns to a gel, rinse the floor and remove the excess with a squeegee, wet vacuum or mop. A second coat may be required on porous, rough textured surfaces.
- Clean tools. Clean tools and equipment with water before the material hardens; hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
