DECOFLOOR PL is a high-performance, single-component cement-based polymer-modified screed used to create decorative and durable interior flooring. This pre-bagged system contains hydraulic cement, graded aggregates, fibers, and additives for excellent compressive strength and adhesion. It can be applied in thin layers (10–40 mm), offering seamless, hygienic surfaces that accept finishes like coatings, membranes, and tiles. Trowelable and easy to apply, it suits both new construction and renovation. How to Apply Decofloor Pl
Decofloor PL is laid 10 to 40 mm thick between divider strips over a primed slab, then ground, grouted, polished and sealed.
- Prepare the substrate. Concrete should have been placed for at least 28 days and be sound, clean, dry and free from loose material, efflorescence, laitance, curing compounds, dirt, oil and grease. Remove contamination or laitance by grinding, captive blasting or sand blasting, repair with a MATEX concrete repair product, and protect surrounding areas from spills.
- Install divider strips. Place divider strips precisely over control, construction, expansion and termination joints instead of saw cutting, with two strips back to back at wide joints. Dividers can also separate colors and act as spreading guides; aluminum, zinc, brass or copper strips may be used, set with their top at the pre-grinding level.
- Prime. Apply a coat of Armoprime AC to unify absorption and bond the overlay, and lay Decofloor PL while the primer is still tacky. Alternatively, apply a first coat of Armoprime Grip and let it dry to seal the substrate.
- Mix. Pour 6.0 to 6.50 liters of water into a container, add the 50 kg bag and mix with a low-speed drill mixer (200–300 rpm) and paddle, or a vessel mixer, for 3 minutes until uniform and lump-free. Add no further water and never add water once the mix starts to set.
- Place and compact. Apply the mix directly to the floor set out with guides, mixing enough to avoid multiple casting times. Spread to the desired thickness and compact and level carefully, as Decofloor PL is not self-leveling; do not wet the surface to smooth it.
- Grind, grout and polish. Although the topping sets in as little as 24 hours, grinding after two weeks gives the best results. Grind with multi-head floor grinders and diamond tools, progressing through every pad from coarse to fine, then grout with sieved Decofloor PL of the same color mixed with water, applied by trowel or scraper. Initial metal-bond grinding is usually dry and resin polishing wet; test a small area first.
- Seal. Once dry, seal the surface for stain protection: for polishing to 40 grit or less use a topical sealer such as Sealex PU or Sealex AS; for 1,500 grit or higher use a penetrating sealer such as Sealex DP, then burnish or re-polish at 1,500 or 3,000 grit if needed. Inspect periodically and re-seal worn areas.
